Representative Hakeem Jeffries, a Democratic leader, stated that he believed a reasonable number of lawmakers in his party would support Speaker Mike Johnson if he allowed a vote on aid for Ukraine and faced a Republican mutiny. Jeffries clarified that House Democrats had not formally discussed this matter and he hadn’t spoken to the speaker about it. However, he suggested that some Democrats may protect Johnson if he defied right-wing Republicans and allowed a vote on a $95 billion national security spending package that includes aid to Ukraine.
